Meet your MTB Dreams guides at Barcelona Airport and after 2h transfer you will get to Cerdanya Valley, the sunniest valley in Europe. Your hotel will be placed in Puigcerdà, capital of the valley in the heart of Pyrenees where we'll enjoy a lunch of local dishes. Then, biker's group will test the bikes on a short warm-up ride along the quiet, tree-lined trails with impressive views on top of the valley.
Before dinner there will still be time for a walk around Puigcerdà old town, surrounded by mountains and near the border with France and Andorra. This small town on the shores of the Schierbeck lake used to be one of the favourite summer destinations of the Catalan bourgeoisie a century ago, that's why it remains a legacy of modernist villas.
Pyrenees, a priceless gem in Southern Europe's geography, grace us with cinematic landscapes, abundant water, lush vegetation, delectable gastronomy, diverse activities, pleasant weather, and naturally, superb mountain biking. As we cross the borders of France and Andorra today, we'll have the unique opportunity to experience three countries.
The journey to Santa Pau is an endless sightseeing, getting away from Pyrenees and plunging into the Garrotxa Volcanic area. Today's bike itinerary goes along peaceful and traffic less backroads crossing Pyrenees towards the volcanic area.
Cycling experience will cross the shades of the Fageda d'en Jordà, a natural reserve that includes a beech forest with unique characteristics in Catalonia and Spain, as it grows on relatively flat terrain, formed by a cooled lava flow from the volcano del Croscat, in the middle of the volcanic Natural Park.
Early ride all the morning across the Llémena valley following its river on a shady combo of single and double tracks. Girona cycling city will welcome you warmly and refuel at the end of the stage. Protected by imposing walls, it managed to perfectly preserve its medieval urban section to these days, as well as the Jewish Quarter, considered one of the most important in Europe. After a light lunch in Girona, there comes Figueres city with its Dalí Museum which is one big surreal object and is located in a former theatre.
Crossing the Alt Empordà plateau in lands, we will face the climb of the day towards Sant Pere de Rodes Monastery. The last section is a glorious descent down to Port de la Selva, a little fisherman's village that will delight your body with a well earned swim in the Med sea and you'll have a lunch with fresh local seafood. Cool off in the sea or at the pool's hotel.
The Gavarres Nature Reserve offers up another thrilling climb (optional :). We will cross paths along the day visiting Peratallada, Pals and having lunch. Golden fields of wheat and sunflowers blanket the countryside as you ride to the luminous Baix Empordà region. Our route travels through rural landscapes, passing quaint hamlets bursting with Bougainvillea. We'll stop at Costa Brava's medieval gems: Peratallada and Pals villages. It makes you feel like you've travelled back in time, with its buildings made from stone, picturesque arches, and castle towers. Wander through the enchanting medieval town of Pals and admire its bell tower, built in the 12th century. Time to pack up your bikes, and be transferred to Barcelona airport.
